Kenya’s leading food processing company Del Monte Kenya has joined its parent company Fresh Del Monte on its ambitious goal to plant 2.5 million trees globally as part of its strategy to embed sustainable business practices in its operations.

Del Monte Kenya Ltd this week conducted a tree planting exercise both on its farms and in the surrounding community that saw 8,200 trees planted in partnership with the local business community.
The annual exercise is part of the firm’s environmental conservation and protection pillars that informs its 5-year strategic plan to achieve A Brighter World Tomorrow®.

Speaking during the event Mr. Wayne Cook, Managing Director Del Monte Kenya Limited, said, “Del Monte is committed to ensuring environmental sustainability not just in Kenya but around the world as part of the company’s commitment to building a brighter world tomorrow.”

This project aims to restore the environment and improve the quality of life by planting trees within and outside of DMKL’s operations.

This time, the project was conducted in partnership with several stakeholders, including the Kenya Defence Forces, Thika, Waternet and Chania Cleaners. Others include the Water Resources Users Association – Njururi Group and Cascade Company.

Fresh Del Monte is committed to planting 2,500,000 trees by 2025 to increase forest cover across the world. The reforestation project involves identifying suitable locations, selecting appropriate tree species, and conducting community awareness programs to promote tree planting and maintenance.

Fresh Del Monte and Del Monte Kenya are committed to protecting our planet and operating sustainably. Beyond tree planting and reforestation goals, the companies are collectively working towards creating a more circular economy and reusing residues when possible. For example, in 2024, Del Monte Kenya opened a groundbreaking biofertilizer plant within its Thika operations that makes biofertilizers out of pineapple residues. This is just one more example of how Fresh Del Monte and Del Monte Kenya are working towards A Brighter World Tomorrow®.
