The Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader, Rigathi Gachagua, has appointed former ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General Cleophas Malala as the interim deputy party leader.

He announced it during the official launch of the DCP party, whose slogan is ‘Skiza Wakenya,’ on Thursday, May 15, 2025, in Nairobi.

“The National Executive Council of the Democracy for the Citizens Party met on May 5, 2025. In accordance with Party Constitution Article 16 (2) Section 2, the following interim officials whose names have already been submitted to the register of political parties for gazettement,” Gachagua said.

Appointments

David Mingati Masina has been named the National Chairperson (Kajiado), Peter Mwathi Deputy National Chairperson for Strategy (Kiambu County), Sarah Owino National Deputy Chairperson for Operations (Kisumu), Hezeron Obanga Secretary General (Kisii), and Martin Ole Kamwaro Deputy Secretary General (Narok).

Annah Kavuu Mutua, National Treasurer (Machakos) Evangelline Wanjira Njoka, Deputy National Treasury Strategy, Thomas Mwita, Deputy National Treasurer Operations Franklin Mithika Linturi, National Organizing Secretary, Andrew Kiplimo Muge, Director of Elections, Cate Waruguru, National Women Leader Chairperson of the Council of Eminent Persons, Maina Kamanda, chairperson of the diaspora caucus, and David Njenga Gikonyo.

Religious Caucus Barnabas Kinywawa Mukethi, National Coordinator for Counties, Alex Khamasi (Kakamega), Executive Party Director Brenda Manjira (Busia), Secretary of Devolution and Intergovernmental Decisions Christopher Mwadime Mwabingu (Taita Taveta), Secretary of Education Mercy Gakuya (Nairobi), Secretary of International Affairs Alvina Kabura (Muranga), and Secretary of Tourism and Environment and Natural Resources Hussein Athimani, Secretary of People With Disabilities (Nakuru); Secretary of Economic Planning Dr Peter Mbai (Nakuru); Secretary of Health Lydia Baraza; Secretary for Health; and Furaha Chengo, Secretary for Information Communication and Technology (Kilifi).

Gachagua also revealed that the party will have various structures with an aim to bring order and stability to the party.

“The party will have a National Delegates Council, National Governance Council, National Executive Council, National Management Council, and the National Executive Board,” said.

He said it will also encompass national leadership councils for governors, senators, Members of the National Assembly, Senate, eminent persons, the diaspora, youth, religious leaders, women, and students. stated that the DCP party.

Further, he stated that the DCP party is people-centred and will focus on listening to the voices of Kenyans.

“This party that we have unveiled today (DCP) revolves around listening to the people of Kenya because they are intelligent, they know what they want, and they know how they want it,” he stated.
