Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja’s administration has launched an extensive roadwork initiative across various areas of the county, addressing the significant damage caused by recent heavy rains and flooding.

The county government is undertaking a systematic ward-by-ward approach to road repair, with more than 10 roads already completed in the past two weeks. Contractors have been engaged to grade and carpet roads, as well as to lay cabro (concrete) pavements in several wards across Nairobi.

Notable projects include roadworks at New Ngara Estate, Lucky Summer Ward, and Block G feeder road in Dandora III Ward. In Dandora Ward III, roads such as Joyvilla School Road, Kosovo Link Road, and Kwa Chief Road have been carpeted in collaboration with the area Member of the County Assembly, Paul Mathu Njambi.

Under the Sakaja administration’s now-famous #LazimaiWork initiative, significant progress has also been recorded on ongoing roadworks in Mugumoini Ward and Muthangari Road in Kilimani Ward, both of which are nearing completion. Governor Sakaja emphasized that his administration is committed to infrastructure improvement, focusing on fixing roads ward by ward in the aftermath of the heavy rains that damaged numerous roads and other infrastructure.

Additionally, Kariandundu Road in Kariobangi North Ward is currently under construction, while Turbo Road in Kilimani Ward has been completed and properly marked.

In a related development, Mama Margaret Uhuru Hospital in Kariobangi Ward, which has recently transitioned from the National Government to the Nairobi City County Government, is now fully operational. This Level 5 facility has significantly expanded Nairobi City County’s ward bed capacity, catering to the healthcare needs of approximately 2 million residents in Eastlands.

Governor Sakaja’s robust roadwork initiative and the operationalization of Mama Margaret Uhuru Hospital underscore his administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure and service delivery in Nairobi.
