Actress Winnie Bwire Ndubi, well known for her role as Dida in Sultana TV show has succumbed to cancer complications while undergoing treatment in Turkey.

In a statement on Thursday morning, the family confirmed Bwire died while receiving treatment out of the country.

“It is with heavy heart and humble acceptance that we announce Winfred Bwire Ndubi lost her battle to cancer while undergoing treatment in Turkey.  We thank you all for your overwhelming support, prayers and generosity,” read the statement.

Her death comes barely a month after she appealed for financial assistance to continue with her cancer treatment. Ndubi was seeking Ksh.5 million to cover the costs of her treatment, including accommodation and meals during her stay.

On august 14, Bwire shared what would have been her last video on her social media pages appealing for help as she sought treatment. She explained to her fans and supporters that she was doing well with her treatment until she started experiencing severe side effects

“If you can support me, I have nothing to give in return, but you will save my life. I didn’t want this video to be emotional I wanted it to be filled with hope,” she said in the video.

Bwire famously known for her role in the Sultana TV show has been battling metastatic breast cancer for the last 2 years and sought the assistance of Ksh.7 million for specialised medical treatment abroad.

In December 2023, she made a public appeal for financial assistance to aid her cancer treatment. The fundraiser aimed to garner support for her journey toward specialised medical attention abroad.

In her plea, she acknowledged the unpredictable nature of life, highlighting the sudden transition from a beautiful moment to facing unexpected challenges.

The actress appealed to well-wishers for financial help, emphasizing that the treatment is very costly and that the family has used all the available resources to pay her medical bills.

In an interview with Citizen’s Tv Lulu Hassan, Bwire shared her journey with breast cancer revealing how she initially dismissed early symptoms. She said she first noticed her hand swelling and fatigue, but she didn’t connect these signs with the illness. She assumed the exhaustion was due to work stress.

In the candid interview, Bwire revealed that upon being diagnosed with cancer, she was fearful of the possibility of losing her role as ‘Dida’ in the Sultana TV series because of the “misconception” of chemotherapy being a traumatic process.
