Kenyan professional golfers, under the Professional Golfers of Kenya (PGK) umbrella, have received a KES 200,000 cash sponsorship boost from leading sports agency, IMG Kenya Limited, for the Kenya Railway Golf Club leg of the PGK Classic tournament.
The sponsorship is part of IMG Kenya’s efforts to support the growth and development of professional golf in Kenya and follows a similar cash sponsorship to the professional golfers’ body in January this year ahead of their members’ participation at the 2025 Magical Kenya Open.
The Railway leg of the PGK Classic, which teed off at 7:30am this morning, brings together 28 pro golfers for a one-round competition as part of events organized by the PGK to keep the pro golfers competitive.
The event will have a total prize purse of KES 400,000 with the overall winner banking KES 72,000 – being 18 percent of the purse.  Amongst the golfers taking part in the event include Njoroge Kibugu, Greg Snow, Dismas Indiza, C.J. Wangai, Nelson Mundayi, David Wakhu, Erick Ooko, Samuel Njoroge, Jastas Madoya, and Mutahi Kibugu.
Commenting on the sponsorship, IMG Kenya Limited CEO, Peter Gacheru said:“We are on a journey with the PGK to sustainably grow the profile of professional golf in Kenya by ensuring our pro golfers are actively taking part in competitive tournaments that will enhance their skills and subsequently raise the quality of the game.
“Our small contribution, which follows similar support to the PGK in January this year, is just the start of our long-term strategic objective to support the growth of pro golf in Kenya.
“We are committed to supporting the efforts of our pros in their quest to becoming regional and global golf stars and look forward to more collaborative efforts with them as they work towards achieving this goal.”
The PGK Chairman, John Wangai said:“We are grateful to IMG for supporting this event and welcome the support from different organizations for our events. The PGK organizes these events to keep the pros competitive and to help them prepare for regional and global tournaments.”
The Railway leg of the PGK classic is the first local pro tournament following the 2025 Magical Kenya Open where the top Kenyan finisher was Windsor’s Riz Charania who finished in a tie for 93rd place. Kenyan pro golfers called for more events to hone their skills.
