European Champions French side Paris St Germain succumbed to English Premier League team Chelsea 3-0 Chelsea in the FIFA Club World Cup finals in the United States of America (USA) at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on Sunday, July 13th, 2025.
England forward Cole Palmer scored twice and created a third for João Pedro, as Chelsea overran the Champions League winners in the first half
The Blues entered halftime with a three-goal lead and never looked back, lifting their second international trophy of the year after winning the UEFA Conference League in May.
They eventually finished the game with 10 men after midfielder Joao Neves pulled Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella’s hair in the 85th minute.
Chelsea talisman Cole Palmer scored in the 22nd and 30th minute to give the West London side a two-goal advantage a third of the way through the tie.
The England international later played a neat pass to Brazilian forward Joao Pedro – who lifted the ball over PSG keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma to give the Blues a three-goal advantage just before half-time.
After the game, the President of USA Donald Trump presented Sanchez with the best goalkeeper award, Palmer with the golden ball trophy for the best player of the tournament, and PSG player Desire Doue with the silver ball trophy for the second-best player of the tournament.
Paris Saint-Germain entered the game as the favorites to win the Club World Cup after passing every test on their way to Sunday’s final at MetLife Stadium. Luis Enrique’s team triumphed 2-0 against Bayern Munich in the quarterfinals and 4-0 over Real Madrid in the semifinal, games that easily could have been finals had the bracket been different.
Inter Miami suffered, Bayern Munich struggled, Real Madrid failed and Chelsea appeared to be PSG’s next victim, but just 22 minutes into the final, the tables turned in the Blues’ favor.
