The newly elected national executive board of the National Olympics Committee of Kenya (NOCK) led by President Shadrack Maluki officially assumed office , Friday August 8, 2024, as Dr. Paul Tergat handed over the reigns of leadership to the new team.

Speaking at the NOCK offices in Nairobi, Maluki exuded confidence in the team that has been elected to lead the Olympic Movement in Kenya for the next four years.

“Continuity and progress will be a key pillars in every step we take moving forward. This team has passionate leaders who are committed to build on existing successes and work for the purpose to move the Olympics Movement forward, ” Maluki said.

Noting that the outgoing board had been elected during a tumultuous time when NOCK was riddled with mismanagement and lack of public trust, Maluki lauded the team, in which he served as first deputy president and said he is ready to steer the new team to a path of achieving greater heights, ” Maluki added.

Maluki was elected President and will be deputised by Athletics Kenya director of youth development Barnaba Korir while John Ogola was elected the Secretary General.

On his part, Tergat, who will continue to sit in the board as an honorary president said; “I take great pride to welcome the new leadership that members have entrusted with running this Olympics Movement for the next four years.”

“I believe they have the desire and ability to transform sports in Kenya. After a gruelling campaign period, it is now time to get down to business and I wish President Maluki and his team well. I believe that you are up to the task,” he added.

While thanking the team that has served with him at NOCK for the last eight years, Tergat said that he was privileged to work with a team of selfless leaders who looked at the role as a collective responsibility and not to serve self interest as well as the dedicated team at the secretariat which has made operations at the NOCK seamless over the years.

NOCK elected a new leadership which will be incarcerated for the next four years as Kenya prepares for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
