Governor Sakaja: New Stadiums in progress will boost local economies

Wednesday, 29th January 2025: Governor Sakaja Johnson has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to completing key stadium projects across the city, saying they will transform local economies and provide much-needed recreational spaces for the youth.
Speaking during the Wednesday morning show on Hot 96 FM, Governor Sakaja highlighted the ongoing construction of Woodley Stadium in Woodley, Kihumbuini Stadium in Kangemi, and Mwiki Stadium, noting that their completion will mark a turning point for the surrounding communities.
“These stadia are progressing nicely; the Woodley one is moving on swiftly, and Kihumbuini in Kangemi is the same. We are on the right path to ensuring that these projects are completed on time,” Sakaja said.
The Governor emphasized that the sports facilities will not only provide a platform for nurturing local talent but also generate jobs and business opportunities.
“These stadia will host events that attract people from different parts of the city, boosting small businesses, transport, and other economic activities around the stadia. Lazima it work,” he added.
Once completed, the new stadiums are expected to feature modern amenities, including seating terraces, changing rooms, and well-maintained playing surfaces suitable for various sports.
“We will not settle for anything less than Dandora stadium. We have to make sure that we raise the standard of our sports. We are that determined,” he said.
Under Sakaja’s administration, the county government of Nairobi has completed the construction of Dandora Stadium which is currently the only playable stadium in Nairobi that is being used for FKF premier league matches. The county is as well constructing the City Stadium, renamed Joe Kadenge stadium.

Participants will compete for exciting rewards, with the GRAND PRIZE BEING A MOTORBIKE, alongside other cash prizes of KSH 40,000, KSH 20,000, and KSH 10,000. This mega tournament will be played across five zones where the winner in every zone will pocket Ksh. 5000 and a chance to move into the next stage for an opportunity to win a Motor Cycle. The runners up in every zone will walk away with a Ksh. 3000 while number three wins Ksh. 2000. In that spirit, Kuria has taken it upon himself to bring the community together through the VIWANDANI POOL TOURNAMENT, set for 24TH MAY 2026. Kiria intones that this is not just competition, it is a statement of inclusion, youth empowerment, and practical engagement at the grassroots level. Kuria encouraged all interested participants to register with thekir local cordinators and be part of this transformative experience. “This is what meaningful leadership looks like—creating real opportunities where talent is recognized and rewarded. It is about moving beyond words and ensuring that progress can be seen and felt within the community,” Kuria said. Kuria, who is running for the position of Makadara Membernof Parliament has been active in empowering the residents of Makadara constituency using sports as a way of empowerment.
