Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i has officially announced that he will be eyeing the presidential seat in the 2027 elections.
Speaking in Keroka town during his homecoming event on Friday, May 2nd, 2025, Matiang’i said he has listened to the voices of Kenyans and will ensure that he liberates the country to ensure it rises to greater heights.
Thousands of residents from Kisii County and Nyamira thronged major towns to welcome Matiang’i to Gusii region for the first time since he jetted back into the country from the United States a fortnight ago.
“I want to tell you this, my friends, we have many challenges, but I want to ask you, please, let us not lose hope in our country. Our nation is built on resilience, so let us unite together so that we can move forward….Will you allow me to talk to all Kenyans from all the counties?” said Matiang’i as the crowds cheered.
In Kisii town, the crowd was forced to relocate to Gusii Stadium to deal with the threat of a stampede.
Kisii Governor Simba Arati and his counterpart from Nyamira, Amos Nyaribo, are among leaders who vowed to traverse the country to support Matiang’i’s bid.
