Leaders in Nairobi are in solidarity with the newly Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF PL) club Nairobi United ahead of their FKF Mozzart Bet finals against Gor Mahia on Sunday, June 29th, 2025.

The leaders are mobilizing Nairobians to turn up at Ulinzi Sports Complex to support the city based club which they consider to be representing Nairobi.

The leaders led by the Liaison officer of the Nairobi County Governor Osman Abdi including the Nairobi County government Chief Officer for Sports Oscar Igaida who is also a former Secretary General of Kenyan Premier League giants AFC Leopards.

Others are the current California Member of County Assembly and former Nairobi County Sports board chairman Hashim Kamau, Rosemary Kariuki who formerly served as the CEC for Sports, Youth and Talent Skills Development before being transferred to the Inclusivity, Public Participation and Customer Service ministry and the Liaison officer of the Nairobi County Governor Osman Abdi.

Kenya’s best ranked performing minister in the county governments leadership usually referred to as County Executive Committee member (CEC) Brian Mulama serving the Nairobi County government as the CEC for Talent, Skills Development and Care, Nairobi County Secretary Godfrey Akumali  and the Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja’s Chief of Staff David Njoroge joined in the rallying calls.

They said a victory for Nairobi United will be good for the city as its participation in the CAF Confederations Cup which is a continental tournament will be key in marketing Kenya in other African countries as a tourist and investments destination which will boost the Kenyan capital’s economy.

“Sports tourism is a powerful tool for marketing a city abroad by attracting visitors and boosting the local economy through major sporting events and related activities like the CAF Confederations Cup which Nairobi United is on the verge of participating if it only beats Gor Mahia in the finals on Sunday, “they said while calling on Nairobians to be part and parcel of the dream of delivering Nairobi to Africa by turning up to cheer Nairobi United.

They said the club is now the pride of Nairobi and should turn up and cheer it and not allow it to be beaten at home in their home town of Nairobi.

“Let’s walk in the footsteps of our Governor Johnson Sakaja who as selfless and took it upon himself in ensuring that Nairobi is represented in the national football league as Nairobi’s marketing brand through the world’s and country’s most popular sport. Now it’s up to us to come and rally behind our own team, “ they said.

The leaders said Sakaja has led by example by supporting a team from the city through adequate funding urging Nairobians to supplement the Governor’s efforts by being available to support the team through crowd support.
