Three match officials, one player and a team manager have been suspended for alleged involvement in match-fixing last month, the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has said.
The three referees who are currently being investigated by the federation’s Integrity Department for the misconduct, are Jacqueline Barongo, Meshack Omondi, and Stephen Adeya.
Veteran FC Talanta keeper Kevin Olang’o and Kibra United team manager Abdulkarim Amele were also banned from all football-related activities until their names are cleared.
“In light of these allegations, the above-named individuals have been provisionally suspended from all football-related activities with immediate effect. This suspension will remain in force until the investigations are concluded and a determination is made by the FKF Disciplinary Committee,” said FKF.
The federation also warned football stakeholders against engaging the quintet until their cases are heard and determined by the Disciplinary Committee.
“Consequently, FKF has directed all its members and the general public not to have any form of sporting contact with the suspended individuals. No further details will be provided at this stage as the matter is pending hearing and determination by the FKF Disciplinary Committee,” concluded the statement.
Kenya Online News understands the five committed the offense during the FKF Premier League match between Talanta and Nairobi City Stars two weeks ago at Kenyatta Stadium, where City Stars triumphed 3-0.
