Opposition leader Kalonzo Musyoka has sensed a hidden hand in the delay of reconstituting  of Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC)

He said the delays through differences which have emerged and stood in the way of the formation of the electoral board have been deliberately orchestrated by individuals who want to frustrate the electoral process for their selfish gains and ulterior motives.

Kalonzo called on those standing in the way of the reconstitution of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to allow the process of forming the election commission to go on.

“I urge those who are standing in the way of reconstituting IEBC to see the bigger picture. They should set aside their narrow selfish interests in preference to the greater good of the nation. Please, allow us to reconstitute IEBC as soon as possible!,” implored Kalonzo.

Kalonzo who is the People’s Loyal opposition de facto leader said they  want the commission to begin working in readiness for a credible election in 2027.

“Regrettably, this discourse is side-blinded by the fact that IEBC is not functional, less than three years to the 2027 General Elections, he complained during the regional conference on AI and the media in elections at Villa Rosa Kempinski in Nairobi on December 3rd, 2024.

People’s Loyal Opposition leader Kalonzo Musyoka having a chat with Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of performance and delivery Management in the Executive Office of the President Eliud Owalo and delegates attending regional conference on AI and the media in elections at Villa Rosa Kempinski in Nairobi on December 3rd, 2024.

Kalonzo lamented that in the past, legal process and challenges in the electoral processes have been attended to when we are too close to elections.

“This enables elections to be manipulated for selfish ends by those who think that they have legislative advantage. This is a terrible trend that must end,” he said.

The Wiper leader wondered why the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) he chaired whose report, findings and recommendations  were released and handed to the president have are not being implemented.

“There has been very little movement on the recommendations that were made. It is difficult to understand why. Is someone deliberately delaying the implementation of these recommendations, with some sinister selfish agenda? Timelines for credible elections are fast fading away. Soon, IEBC will go into the panic mode. Are we not able to take any lessons from past mistakes?” posed Kalonzo.
