The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) will support President William Ruto in the 2027 general elections, Kisumu County Senator Tom Ojienda has claimed.

“I am sure that on February 28, this year, Raila Odinga will become the CEO of the African Union Commission, and he will move to Addis Ababa, and I will remain here with Senator Sifuna who is the ODM Secretary General, and he will be advised that the way we go in 2027 is to support William Ruto,” Ojienda said in a TV talk show on Thursday, January 9, 2025, where Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna was also on the panel.

Ojienda who is a Senator elected on the Orange party ticket also claimed that ODM could be rewarded with the position of the Deputy President.

“ODM will be a major player. I think the coalition agreement may include a possibility of having a Deputy President from ODM. Then we will have other positions shared between ODM and UDA. the current DP Kithure Kindiki will be squarely in government, and I think that negotiation will happen at that point in time. The government is big, and you can have an arrangement,” he said.

Currently, Ruto is involved with ODM in the formation of the broad-based government, and the alliance between the opposition and the ruling party has led to some claiming they might form an alliance in the next election.
