Ex-president President Uhuru Kenyatta’s former ruling party Jubilee will organize for demonstrations to pressure for the reconstitution of the Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Jubilee Party secretary general Jeremiah Kioni said after the African Union Commission (AU) elections next month, his party will reach out to other opposition leaders to plan for protests.

“A few days after Raila Odinga wins the AUC seat, we will celebrate his win as we demand for the commission to be made operational. Once we set the date, we will rally Kenyans to come out and make demands,” he said.

Kioni expressed concerns that the delayed reconstitution of the commission may affect the election process.

The politician said appointing commissioners past the given schedule will deny them the time to adequately prepare for the election process.

The fact is that time is now slipping away and that should have been used to reconstitute and hire new staff,” he added.

“The delay has put the country at risk,” the Jubilee secretary general stated.

“There are constituencies whose boundaries needed to be reviewed which has now been overtaken by time yet some have no threshold to hold elections because they don’t have the required numbers.”

He claimed some people were employing delay tactics by ensuring those tasked with the role of managing the elections were not operating.

Two court cases have continued to block the nomination of nine members of the selection panel by the President.

On January 25, Justice Dorah Chepkwony is expected to give directions in a case where a petitioner claims that persons with disability were not incorporated in the panel.

Kioni who spoke during the launch of the Wasupa na Jubilee team that will undertake grassroots elections in Murang’a county urged youths to continue fighting for better services.

The party’s threat for demos comes few days after Uhuru urged the young generation to come out boldly and fight for their rights.

Uhuru on Friday said the youth commonly known as Gen Z including his daughter Ngina should not just sit around and let what they toiled for be taken away.

Uhuru said everything is worth fighting for and “If you don’t fight for it don’t complain when it is taken away”.

While promising the Gen Zs of full support, Uhuru said the young people have the energy to push for a better society and must be encouraged.
