The County Assembly Forum (CAF) swore in new members today despite unresolved audit queries raising concerns over the forum’s financial transparency.

The ceremony, held at Eka Hotel in Nairobi, brought together newly elected Members of County Assemblies (MCAs) representing all 47 counties.

CAF’s newly sworn-in chairperson, Seth Kamanza, urged members to uphold integrity and accountability as they assume their roles. He emphasized the need to anchor the forum in law to close existing loopholes.

“Today, I embark on a journey to ensure this forum remains pivotal in shaping devolution and influencing national discourse. We cannot let accountability issues derail our work,” Kamanza said after taking the oath of office.

The swearing-in follows recent reports that the Office of the Auditor General flagged CAF for questionable expenditures and irregular procurement practices.

The unresolved audit has drawn criticism from civil society groups and some MCAs, who demand greater transparency. Addressing integrity concerns, CAF Secretary General Hon. Chege Mwaura stated that the forum remains open to scrutiny.

“CAF has fought for better county budgets, MCA welfare, and stronger devolution. We welcome any audit process and call on the Senate and Parliament to support us in this,” Mwaura said.

As the new leadership takes charge, all eyes are on how they will resolve the audit findings and restore trust in CAF’s operations.
